NAQUYO—The Visionary Universe of Heian-kyoKYOTO STEAM in collaboration with MUTEK.JP

In collaboration with a broad range of creators, researchers, and engineers, the KYOTO STEAM—International Arts × Science Festival Executive Committee and MUTEK.JP, which holds the MUTEK music and digital art festival with cutting-edge technology, are undertaking NAQUYO—The Visionary Universe of Heian-kyo, a project to recreate the soundscape that surrounded Heian-kyo (as Kyoto was once known) 1,200 years ago by integrating the latest sound and video technology with cultural research specific to Kyoto.
NAQUYO Live Performance
Based on the sublime sounds of the Buddhist temple bells that were said to surround Heian-kyo, this live performance integrates the latest sound and video technologies. Experience the soundscape of Heian-kyo.

NAQUYO: Music and Video Workshop
This sound and video workshop is led by artists taking part in the NAQUYO project. By conveying ideas and skills for recreating the soundscape of Heian-kyo, the workshop participants learn hands-on about the fusion of technology and art.
