NAQUYO―The Visionary Universe of Heian-kyoKYOTO STEAM in collaboration with MUTEK.JP

In partnership with MUTEK.JP, which holds the MUTEK festival of music and digital art with cutting-edge technology, KYOTO STEAM—International Arts × Science Festival is undertaking the art project NAQUYO—The Visionary Universe of Heian-kyo—KYOTO STEAM in collaboration with MUTEK.JP in 2020 and 2021.
In 2021, the project works with new collaborators and sound materials to integrate the latest 3D audio technology for a spatial installation and live performance.
Experience fresh sensations and resonances recreating the soundscape of Heian-kyo through your whole body, and the mindscape that emerges from this.


NAQUYO Immersive Sound Live Performance
Audience seats and stage are set up in the middle of the immersive installation. This live performance is a cutting-edge fusion of the latest digital music and art, traditional music, and contemporary dance.

NAQUYO Immersive Sound Installation
Using the latest 3D audio system, this workshop virtually recreates the sounds heard by people in the Heian period a thousand years ago. Immersing themselves in the space that combines digital art with Buddhist temple bells and the other sounds of Heian-kyo, visitors are invited to enjoy the soundscape of Heian-kyo with all their body.
